Comorbidities in Corneal Refractive Surgery Candidates: A Cross-Sectional Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: Individuals with refractive errors sometimes have other associated ocular and systemic abnormalities. Objectives: To explore comorbidities in Corneal Refractive Surgery (CRS) candidates to examine any contraindications for CRS. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Medical records of individuals who underwent surgery screening at Chiang Mai University LASIK Center, Mai, Thailand, were reviewed. All clinical data the initial visit evaluated. Eyes history CRS phototherapeutic keratectomy excluded. Results: A total 1,167 cases (2,334 eyes) recruited, out which 643 females (55.09%). Myopia most common type error (2,120 eyes, 90.83%), 868 (40.94%) eyes had high myopia. Approximately 45% (n=526) worn contact lenses. The five (eyes, proportion) included keratoconus suspect (297, 12.72%), cataract (246, 10.53%), dry eye/probable eye (208, 8.91%), glaucoma (184, 7.88%), amblyopia (149, 6.38%). conditions that affected choices or outcomes hypertrophic scar/keloid (169 cases, 14.48%) followed by allergy/asthma (127 10.88%). 1,028 (44.04%) excluded from CRS, mainly due abnormal corneal topography (470/1,028 45.72%). Conclusion: Most myopic lens wearers. Serious sequelae myopia use not uncommon. Additionally, diseases regularly options. contraindication topography. Our study, thus, emphasizes need thorough screenings candidates.

purpose: to evaluate the correlation between refractive, corneal and lenticular astigmatism and higher order aberrations (hoa) in refractive surgery candidates methods: this cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study consisted of 400 eyes (200 patients) who were referred between 2011 to 2013 to farabi eye hospital for refractive surgery. refraction, topography and aberrometry were performed t...
متن کاملCorneal & refractive surgery.
Excimer lasers and high technology instrumentation have ushered in a new era of vision improvement surgery in Hawaii, replacing the more traditional forms of refractive surgery: cataract surgery, corneal transplant surgery, and radial keratotomy. Corneal surgery has been enhanced by new techniques of microsurgery and a more effective tissue procurement system for donor corneal tissue. Several l...

By Yaron S. Rabinowitz, MD The use of corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) to arrest progressive keratoconus was first introduced by Wollensak, Spoerl, and Seiler in 2003. In their initial description of the procedure, they removed the epithelium (epi-off) prior to administering riboflavin.1 These investigators have the most experience with the procedure, have experimented with different ways o...
متن کاملCorneal or lens refractive surgery?
E xcimer lasers are used today practically all over the world to treat refractive errors. This provides us with a wealth of data and findings that must be analyzed, presented, interpreted, and discussed. One major finding is already certain: the absolute and indisputable necessity of refractive surgery. Even those who are skeptical about refrac-tive surgery must accept this. Patients simply do ...
متن کاملMitomycin C in corneal refractive surgery.
Mitomycin C has played a deciding role in the current revival of excimer laser surface ablation techniques. We review the literature regarding mechanism of action of mitomycin C, histological effects on the cornea, and indications, dose, exposure time, and toxicity of mitomycin C in corneal refractive surgery. Mitomycin C is an alkylating agent with cytotoxic and antiproliferative effects that ...
